How to Add an Audio File in Forscore

Add Your Own Audio File in Forscore

Download your file to Forscore

The first way to add an audio file in forscore is to upload your own file from either your iPad or cloud storage.

First, tap on the suitcase icon in the top right, then press “Services.” To add a file from either your local or cloud storage, press “Files.”

Then we’ll choose “Download,” and it’ll bring up a pop up file selecting window where you can browse your Files app. If you have your cloud service (like Google Drive, Outlook, or Dropbox) connected to Files, you’ll be able to browse those files in this window.

Attach the audio file to a score

We’re not finished yet! Next, we have to actually attach the file to a specific score.

To do this, open the score you’d like the file attached to. Then tap on the top bar where the title of the score is written.

Then we’ll navigate down to the “Audio” section towards the bottom of this window.

Next, we’ll press on the rectangular music icon on the bottom of the window. Be sure to press the rectangular icon, and not the circular one!

This will pop up another window that shows all of the audio files you’ve added in forscore. Choose the one you’d like, and you’re done!

Add an Apple Music/iTunes file in Forscore

This method is a little easier, but it’s been affected by a bug since iOS 13 was released in 2019. I haven’t been able to get this one to work, but I thought I’d share the directions anyway just in case someone is successful or if the bug gets fixed!

For this method, we skip the entire first step of downloading a file. Instead, open up the score you’d like audio attached to, then tap on the middle bar on the top that says the title of the score you’re in. Then navigate to the “Audio” section towards the bottom of the window, and press the circular music icon in the bottom right of the window.

This will let you search your Apple Music/iTunes library. This would be such a powerful tool if it worked!

Once you choose the song you’d like to add, you’re done. It’s worked for me up to this point, but once I try to play the song, it just doesn’t work.

Playback Options in Forscore

After you’ve added your audio file in forscore, there are a few ways to customize its playback!

Forscore gives you the option to speed up or slow down the recording without changing the pitch, but you can change the pitch as well, if you’d like. You can also change the tuning by cents.

There’s an option to loop the audio, and you can also sync up page turns with the music.

These options turn this small feature into a powerful practice tool!
