Forscore Top Bar: Overview and Features

A few years ago, I made a video sharing all the features available in the Forscore top bar. The top bar of the app is full of all the different tools you might need to use while practicing or performing. Here’s an updated look at the Forscore top bar!

Score Library

The first icon on the left of the top bar looks like a half note, and it brings up your score library. You can sort your scores in a few different ways, but I always just keep mine in alphabetical order by title, because I almost always remember what I name each score.

Bookmarks

The next icon looks like an open book, and it opens bookmarks.

I don’t really use this feature, but it can be helpful to add bookmarks to a score if you’re dealing with a huge pdf that maybe has multiple movements or even pieces within it.

Setlists

Next up is a little hamburger menu that brings up your setlists.

Setlists are helpful when you’re performing more than one piece within Forscore, and I’ve used it for a few gigs and recitals.

Cloud Services

After setlists, we see a little cloud icon. This will show you the different cloud services you can connect to Forscore to import scores a little easier.

Display Modes

Now into the box in the center of the top bar, we see a little settings wheel. This will bring up different display modes, so you can change how the score is orientated on your screen.

Title and Metadata

Right in the center of the Forscore top bar, you’ll see the title of the score you have open. If you tap on the title, it’ll open up the properties and metadata for the score.

Here you can change information about the score, like its title, the composer, tags, labels, and other organizational information.

In this window, you can also edit what setlists the score is a part of, add or edit audio, add or edit midi, and change what libraries the score is in.

Sharing

To the right of the title, you’ll see three dots. Tapping on this brings up a few sharing options for your score.

Within this little window, the “i” icon will bring you to the metadata window again.

The flag lets you flag a score for organizational purposes.

The sharing icon (the square with an up arrow) will bring up a few different sharing options. Here, you can choose to share the pdf, annotated pdf, or a forscore file. I almost always share an annotated pdf, but no matter which format you’d like to share, you can access even more sharing options by tapping on the three dots overlayed on the icon for each format. You can choose what range of pages you’d like to export along with your desired aspect ratio.

Below those first three options, you’ll see “show in library.” This will highlight the score within the library on the left side of the screen.

Next, you can open a new tab in Forscore to easily switch back and forth between multiple scores.

After that, you can also open a new window. This will open the window in split screen, which is so helpful for score study, especially if you’re comparing two different editions of the same piece.

Next you can add the score to a setlist.

And finally, you can delete the score. Pressing on this will open up a confirmation window where you can choose if you really want to delete the score.

Annotation Mode

After the middle of the top bar, we have a little scribble icon. This will open up annotation mode, where you can write on your score.

Search

After the annotation icon, you’ll see a magnifying glass. Tapping on this will let you search for any score you want.

Metronome, Drone, and Tuner

Next you’ll see either a metronome, tuning fork, or tuning needle icon. This will bring up those tools, which are all part of the same window.

I prefer Tonal Energy, a stand alone tuning/drone/metronome app, but in a pinch, Forscore’s tools can easily get the job done!

Other Tools and Settings

Finally on the top bar, you’ll see a briefcase option. Clicking on this brings up a whole slew of different options, and I go in depth on each one in the video. Be sure to watch that if you’d like to know more about these different features!
