Overview

Andante Practice Journal is an iOS-only app available in the App Store for iPhone and iPad. Since I have an Android phone, I’m only able to use the iPad app.

In the app, you can choose what instrument you play and an icon that matches what you do. You can log your practice sessions, use a metronome, record yourself, and journal. At the end of each practice session, the app asks you to rate your mood and focus on a scale of 1-5, which it then uses to create analytics for your practice sessions.

Stats

Stats in Andante Practice Journal app

The analytics in this app are, in my opinion, what makes it so much fun to use! (That and the practice streak, which looks just like a Snapchat streak🔥)

You can see what days you’ve practice, what time of day you typically practice, your average mood, average focus, and how they change depending on what time of day you practice, and what day of the week you practice.

You can customize the settings to look at the last seven days, this month, or this year. You can view all of this in the free version of the app! (You get even more control with the pro features!)

Log a Practice Session

Andante Practice Journal is now where I log all of my practice sessions. Press the music note in the bottom right corner of the app, and you’ll automatically start a timer!

On the new screen, you’ll see a few different buttons. In the free version of the app, you can use the metronome, stopwatch, and record yourself. Recordings are saved to each practice session.

When you’re finished practicing, press done, and then track your mood and focus for the stats.

Journal

True to its name, Andante Practice Journal has a journalling function! In the free version, you can only have one journal, but if you opt for the pro features, you can have unlimited journals.

Here, you can type or hand write whatever thoughts that might come up.
