How I Organize Digital Sheet Music

Now that I use an iPad for reading sheet music, I have hundreds of files and scans. Today I’m walking through how I organize digital sheet music!

Forscore

If you’ve watched or read my other Tech for Musicians posts, you probably already know that I use and love the app Forscore. This is where I store and read the sheet music I’m practicing and working on with students.

There are a bunch of different ways to organize your music within Forscore, but I personally just edit the title of the music, and then sort the titles A-Z. I (almost) always remember what I name each piece, so I can usually find what I’m looking for really fast.

Google Drive

I keep all my backups and sheet music that I’m not currently using in Google Drive. Within Drive I have a “Sheet Music” folder, which is then split into a few different sub-folders. (See above)

Within each folder, I have more sub-folders, like levels, type of piece, and composer. Check out the YouTube video to see how each folder is arranged!

Of course, if I forget where I put something, I can search the name of the file on Google Drive to find it. I have a widget on the homescreen of my iPad that lets me search. It’s really handy!
